Sports Performance Coach

Position Summary

Harvard-Westlake School seeks an exceptional, collaborative, and highly qualified full-time Sports Performance Coach to support the development, health, and performance of student-athletes in grades 7–12.

As a member of the Athletics Department, the Sports Performance Coach assists in the design and implementation of strength, conditioning, speed, agility, and movement-based programming for middle and upper school student-athletes. This role works closely with the Director of Sports Performance, sport coaches, Sports Medicine, and other Athletics staff to create a cohesive, safe, inclusive, and challenging training environment.

The successful candidate will bring demonstrated knowledge of sport preparation, a commitment to continuing education, and the ability to motivate student-athletes toward challenging and realistic goals. This position requires a clear understanding of current trends in sports performance and the ability to apply those practices appropriately within a school athletics setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Director of Sports Performance in all aspects of strength and conditioning programming for students and athletes in grades 7–12
  • Create a safe, welcoming, inclusive, and challenging environment for middle and upper school athletes
  • Design and implement yearly training plans for junior varsity and varsity student-athletes under the direction of the Director of Sports Performance
  • Teach and coach exercise technique across multiple disciplines, including weight training, plyometrics, sprinting, agility, and change of direction
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with sport coaches, Sports Medicine, and Athletics Department colleagues
  • Support the development of a cohesive training environment aligned with the goals of individual teams and the broader Athletics program
  • Teach middle school physical education classes in the basics of strength training, gymnastics, speed, and agility under the supervision of the Director of Sports Performance
  • Stay current with trends, best practices, and continuing education in the field of sports performance

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in exercise science, kinesiology, or a related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience teaching or coaching athletes in strength and conditioning
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification
  • Demonstrated knowledge of sport preparation and age-appropriate training practices
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, coaches, parents, and colleagues
  • Ability to work flexibly, independently, and collaboratively in a fast-paced school athletics environment
  • Enthusiasm for becoming part of a vibrant school community, including broad engagement with students and colleagues and attendance at school events outside the direct scope of responsibility

Compensation & Schedule

The salary range for this position is $67,000 – $80,000, commensurate with experience. This is a full-time position and requires a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends.

About Harvard-Westlake

Harvard-Westlake is an independent school with two campuses in Los Angeles and approximately 1,600 students enrolled in grades 7–12. Classes for grades 7–9 take place on the Middle School campus in the Holmby Hills neighborhood, while grades 10–12 are housed on the Upper School campus in Studio City. A third campus, River Park, focused on athletics and recreation, is scheduled to open in Fall 2026.
