Chinese Language Substitute Teacher

Harvard-Westlake School is currently seeking to hire an exceptional and highly qualified substitute teacher for part-time, on-call coverage at our Middle School, teaching Chinese I, II, and III Advanced Chinese to students in grades 7-9 for the 2026-27 school year.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent degree in Education, Linguistics, or a related field;

  • Experience teaching Chinese as a second language in a school classroom environment;

  • Fluency in Chinese;

  • Ability to teach beginning and intermediate students;

  • Strong communication skills and demonstrated collegiality and organization;

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate concepts clearly and concisely to students and foster an innovative and creative learning environment

COMPENSATION

The substitute pay rate is $40 per hour with a minimum 4-hour guarantee per day. Compensation for long-term substitutes (two weeks or more) is based on a prorated annual salary of $85,000.

ABOUT HARVARD-WESTLAKE

Harvard-Westlake is an independent school with two campuses in Los Angeles and approximately 1,600 students enrolled in grades 7–12. Classes for grades 7–9 take place on the Middle School campus in the Holmby Hills neighborhood, while grades 10–12 are housed on the Upper School campus in Studio City. A third campus, River Park, focused on athletics and recreation, is scheduled to open in Fall 2026.
